So what is coaching anyway?

I admit that in the beginning, I had a hard time with the term "life coach." Even Martha Beck describes life coaching as one of the "cheesiest-sounding" terms to emerge in recent years. Once you become familiar with coaching, however, you see that it is a powerful, practical process of figuring out how to live your best life.

I help clients get clear on who they are and what they want so we can design a plan to get them there. Perhaps most importantly, I help clients feel better (you know, happier and more relaxed) along the way.

I can help you look at your life & problems (some problems are no longer problems and unsolvable problems suddenly have solutions) in new ways, which opens up more possibilities - in thoughts, feelings, actions, and results.

What does coaching look like?

I coach individual clients over the phone. We spend time looking at their thoughts - identifying which ones are causing stress, examining the thoughts, questioning them, uncovering other thoughts that are more true & useful. By changing their thinking, clients feel better in their current lives without changing a thing outside of themselves. Many clients have taken their more relaxed selves and tools they have learned in coaching to strengthen and deepen their relationships and be happier and more successful in their current work situations. Other clients have made changes, like moving, joining the Peace Corps, losing weight, and starting new careers.

In the process of coaching, I teach clients how to coach themselves so they can take coaching tools with them to challenging relationships, parenting and work situations and help them balance it all.  I also exchange e-mail with clients, sharing insights and helpful resources between sessions.
